

He proudly served in the Pacific Theater in WWII with the 370th Heavy Bombardment Group (B-24's). Known as the Long Rangers. After the war, Leon returned to San Antonio and married the love of his life, Vera Lee Hans. He was very active in the community, coaching youth baseball and football, and was a member of Mayfield Park Optimist Club. He received the calling and became an ordained Deacon in the Catholic Church.
He now rejoins Vera Lee who predeceased him, and leaves three children, Rigney, Gary, and Tamara Byrom and husband Kenneth Sr.; grandchildren Brad Mueller, Tara Vaughan, Kenneth Byrom, Jr., Kaci Brown, and Kyle Mueller; great-grandchildren Rosslyn, Bronwyn, Eilis, Mara Vaughan, and Easton Byrom.
