Leonarda Janie De Leon Reyna, 89, passed away on September 15, 2020. Born in San Antonio, Texas on November 6, 1930, she is preceded in death by her parents, Bernardo De Leon and Lucia Gonzalez De Leon; her brothers, Bernardo De Leon Jr. and Mercedes De Leon.
Leonarda is survived by her significant other, Domingo Leos Jr.; her son, Victor Ballez; her grandchildren, Victor Angel Ballez Jr., Bonnie Bianca Ballez and Isabela Leigh Ballez; her great-grandchildren, Olivia Ballez and Victor Ballez III; and her numerous nieces, nephews plus her extended Nixon family, extended Ballez family and friends from various parts of the country who loved her.
Janie, as she was known to many, had a multitude of talents. She was a licensed Cosmetologist and worked in El Paso Texas, San Jose California and Chicago Illinois. She worked and retired from Lackland AFB, San Antonio Guest Housing Services. When living in Battle Creek MI she made many friends while working for Kellogg Community College serving as an administrator for the KCC Learning Center’s English as a Second Language Program. Janie also enjoyed working many years in Helotes TX as assistant administrator for MS Kelly and her Day Care Center. She enjoyed helping her niece, Janie Alcala at her Beauty Salon for many years after retirement.
Janie, besides working, loved to have fun. She loved to play Bingo, go to the Casino, travel, shopping and going on cruises with her Nixon cousins. She enjoyed spending time participating in activities at the Bob Ross Senior Center. She created numerous crafts and canvas paintings that she gave to friends and family.
Janie was a devoted Christian. She graduated from a 2 year International Bible College accredited theology program at Kings Bible Institute. An avid church goer, she also loved to dine at different restaurants after church with her friends and family.
Due to restrictions on public gatherings, the Memorial Service at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino – 226 Cupples Road 78237 – will be limited to only 50 people in the building. Face coverings are required to be worn at all times.

The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, September 30 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a Prayer Service to begin at 7:00 PM. A Chapel Service will begin at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 1, and Burial will follow at San Fernando Cemetery II – 746 Castroville Rd. 78237.
