

Leroy Louis Mayer, 79, of San Antonio, TX, lost his battles with bladder cancer and chronic lymphocytic leukemia on May 31, 2017. He was born to Edgar Peter Mayer and Linda Penshorn on July 8, 1937, in San Antonio, TX. He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda; his father, Edgar, and stepmother, Thekla Penshorn. Leroy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Cora; their five children, Lisa (Terry) Flaucher, Tracey (John) McCarville, Randy (Bill) Mayer, Kristy (Paul) DeWinne and Andria (Ben) Tovar; six grandchildren, Nick, Natalie, Chris, Kelsey, Collin, and Luke; brother, Allen (Eleanor) Mayer, and stepbrother, Harvey (Peggy) Penshorn and their families.
He graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1955, attended San Antonio College (SAC) and obtained a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Texas at Austin. While attending SAC, he worked at USAA, where he met the love of his life, Cora. After college, he worked for 19 years in various accounting positions for Cudahy Bar-S meat packing in San Antonio; Wichita KS; Omaha NE and Independence, IA. In 1983, Leroy and Cora relocated to San Antonio, where he worked 13 years as an accounting officer for First Federal Savings Bank and four years for Alamo Concrete Pavers. He retired in 2000, but proctored exams at St. Mary's University for 13 years during his retirement.
He was an active member of St. Helena Catholic Church and the St. Vincent de Paul Society, serving as President of the chapter for two years. In December 2016, he was recognized for outstanding service for his dedicated work helping the less fortunate of San Antonio.
He was an avid reader and enjoyed golfing, fishing, spending time with his family, and sharing a good joke. He loved to meet with classmates from Brackenridge, and he continued to attend school reunions as long as he was able.
