Leroy Richter, age 71, of San Antonio, died unexpectedly on Friday, December 11, 2015. Leroy was truly a one-of-a-kind individual and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He will be sorely missed by his sons Lee Richter and wife Erin, Wesley Richter and wife Brittney; Lucille Hooker, the mother of his sons; his five siblings: Bill Richter and wife Grace, Diana Schmidt and husband Tom, Jimmy Richter and wife Pamila, Sherry Richter, and Joe Richter and wife Carol as well as by his many nephews and nieces and countless friends he made over his lifetime.
Leroy was easy going, sometimes quiet, but with a unique sense of humor. He could regale virtually anyone with an endless litany of stories that he was adept at remembering (or making up if needed). His parents, Lois and William L., who preceded him in death, instilled in him and his siblings a deep love of the Texas coast, fishing and boating in the bays. This was his favorite pastime and he passed this love on to his sons as well. Leroy was also an excellent marksman and wing shooter. He loved to spend the day hunting doves or quail in a South Texas field.
Leroy was the owner/proprietor of Richter's Antler Café, and over the last 25 years or so he made it into a favorite Hill Country eating spot just outside of Bulverde. Currently, Leroy and Lee co-own the Antler Café and family members and friends always looked forward to dining there and visiting with them. In all his interactions with people Leroy was kind and generous, especially to those who people tend to overlook.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 223 E. Summit at 1:00 pm on December 16, 2015 with interment immediately following at Sunset Memorial Park.
