'Major Les Valouche was my commanding officer in Troop C (Air), 16th Cavalry, the Darkhorse. At the time I was a young Lieutenant. Les took me under his wing, gently guided, mentored and challenged me with tough jobs and extraordinary responsibility. He selected me to lead American soldiers in combat; my greatest privilege. I cannot thank him enough for his leadership, wise counsel, and firm hand. He embodied the essence of an officer and commander. An extraordinary man and leader. Sir, thank you so very much.

'It was my great privilege to have been among a group of distinguished patriots who enjoyed hunting during the early 2000s. That group included Les Valouche, a very down-to-earth, kind, respectful, humble and respected member of our small group. It was always a pleasure to visit with Les evenings after a day of hunting. In comparing notes around the campfire, it turned out Les and I had been residents of the same county at one time early in his military career and in my law enforcement career. I am deeply saddened to learn of Les Valouche's passing. There simply is no way to describe Les other than an american hero when his service in Vietnam is credited. My sincerest sympathy and condolences to Marilyn and Les' family and many friends.'
