Born in Neptune, New Jersey on November 4, 1943, Bart lived a life marked by dedication, humility, perseverance, and a deep love for his family. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel after nearly twenty years of service. Though he rarely spoke about his accomplishments, he earned numerous military honors, including the Meritorious Service Medal and Air Force Commendation Medal, reflecting a career of leadership, integrity, and faithful service to his country.
Beyond his military career, Bart found joy in the hobbies and passions that filled his life. He was an avid bowler who enjoyed building model airplanes, restoring and working on old cars, racing, and designing and building radio-controlled cars. His love of aviation led him to become a founding member of the Heart of Texas Soaring Society, where he shared his enthusiasm for radio-controlled model aircraft with fellow enthusiasts and lifelong friends.
Above all else, Bart cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose kindness, wisdom, and steady presence touched the lives of those around him.
Nothing brought Bart greater joy than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. When asked how they would describe their grandfather, they simply said he was funny, understanding, and caring. Those words beautifully capture the man he was. His patience, love, and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him, and he will be deeply missed by those fortunate enough to have shared in his life.
The Scripture that best reflects Bart’s life is 1 Corinthians 13:7 (NLT): “Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.” Those who knew him witnessed these qualities throughout his life as he faithfully loved his family, supported those around him, and faced life’s challenges with quiet strength.
He was predeceased by his parents, Gaetano (Thomas) Como and Margaret (Miscioscia) Como.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Como; his daughters, Christina Johnson and her husband, Jack, Andrea and her husband, Matthew; his cherished grandchildren, Grace, Faith, Love, Justice, and Melony; his brother, Felix Como and his wife, Judy Como; his sister, Mary Jane Como; long time friend Tom Meeks; and many extended family members, dear friends, and loved ones.
Bart’s legacy of love, service, humility, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A military burial with honors will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. where he will be laid to rest in recognition of his faithful service to the United States of America.
“Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”
