Liliane Maria Manzi (Nowak), age 92 of San Antonio, TX, passed away April 19, 2022. Liliane was born October 3, 1929 in Stadt Olbersdorf, Czechoslovakia (Schlesien-East Provinz, Sudetenland) the second of two children to Eduard Nowak and Margarete Nowak (Heintel).
An avid reader, as a child, Liliane was always seen with a book and was often so quiet in her home while reading that her mother would have to look for her not knowing if she was still in the house or in an apple tree in the yard. Liliane always said "I was never bored as a child as long as I had a book to read."Liliane continued the passion of reading all through her life. There was not a subjct that she did not read about from ancient Greece and Rome to the Native American culture of the United States.
In 1960, Liliane came to the United States where she married John P. Manzi, a member of the United States Air Force, in Somerville, Massachusetts. The marriage took the two to multiple overseas assignments, and stateside assignments in Blytheville, Arkansas and then settling in San Antonio, Texas in 1969.
Always putting her family first, Liliane took a job working as a "cafeteria lady" with the South San Antonio Independent School District so she would be home when her children returned from school. As the years went on, Lilianes extended family grew to include grandchildren and great grandchildren. Liliane could never get enough of having her family around.
Always proud of her German culture, Liliane always said there was more to Germany than what people associate with the Nazis and World War II. She would talk to no end that Germany had centuries of culture prior to the onset of World War II.
A characteristic Liliane harnessed was that of an eternal optimist. Liliane always saw the best in people. Liliane was especially fond of those who were less fortunate. Liliane consistently contributed to charitable organizations which provided for children who were less fortunate and to organizations which helped the Native Americans.
Liliane was preceded in death by her husband John P. Manzi Jr. in 2005, daughter Susan Manzi in 1961, parents, and sister Felizitas (Lizzi) Nowak.
Liliane is survived by sons Michael Manzi (Cathy), Martin Manzi (Rhonda), grandchildren Daniel Manzi (Maria), Kevin Manzi, Nicholas Manzi, Richard Clark (Erin), great grandchildren Julian "JJ" Manzi, Aurora Hernandez, Logan Clark, and Ryan Clark.
The family would like to express sincere gratittude to the Visiting Angels of San Antonio, Holy Savior Hospice, Comfort Keepers and Pipestone Place Assisted Living for all they did in caring for Liliane during her final years.
