Lilliam Moon, born February 22, 1937, entered into the loving embrace of the Lord on Palm Sunday, March 29, 2026, following a long and courageous journey with congestive heart failure. Fittingly, she passed on a day that celebrates Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and the beginning of Holy Week—a moment that, for Lilliam, became the start of her everlasting life with God.
Lilliam’s story began in Mexico City, where her father served as the Cuban military attaché. Though born abroad, her heart and childhood were rooted in Havana. In 1962, she and her family bravely fled Fidel Castro’s communist regime, seeking the freedom and opportunity that would define the rest of her life. Florida became their refuge, and later San Antonio became her cherished home—especially once she reunited with her beloved sister and brotherinlaw, Perla and Fermin Sarabia.
San Antonio embraced her, and she embraced it right back. She delighted in the city’s vibrant arts scene—live theater, the Grande Opera, and dancing to big band music at the Roaring 20’s club. It was also in San Antonio that she met the love of her life, her second husband, Dr. Roger Moon, a child psychiatrist and Navy veteran. Their marriage was a blessing she treasured deeply.
Professionally, Lilliam brought grace, dedication, and warmth to her work as an executive secretary at both the iconic Joske’s department store and the Federal Reserve Bank. Outside of work, she poured her heart into caring for animals. A devoted vegetarian and lifelong animal lover, she shared her home with many pets over the years—each one adored, but none more than her beloved cat Fiona, who remained by her side until the end.
Lilliam is survived by her children, Anthony and Lilliam Sarabia; her nieces, Patricia Wenzel and Perla Johnson; their husbands, Tim Wenzel and Paul Johnson Jr.; and her grandnephews, Justin Johnson and Paul Johnson III. Her family will forever remember her charm, her warmth, and the infectious laugh that could brighten any room.
A Holy Rosary for the repose of her soul will be held on Friday, April 17 at 6:30 pm, followed by a funeral service on Saturday, April 18 at 10:30 am. Both services will take place at Sunset Memorial Park Chapel, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio.
