Lillian Jouleen "Jo" Gibbens

Lillian Jouleen “Jo” Hurta Gibbens went to her heavenly home on October 1, 2020. She was 83 years of age. Jo was born in San Antonio on November 30, 1936 to Hynek Alvin Hurta and Lillian Rose Dusek. She was a lifelong resident of San Antonio. Jo graduated from Edison High School in 1955. She graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in 1959 with a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business Administration. While in college, she met the love of her life, Sid Gibbens. They married on July 19, 1958. They settled in San Antonio, Texas, and joined the San Antonio Independent School District in 1959, where she spent 35 years as a teacher. Jo had two children: William Patrick in 1960 and David Leon in 1963. She was a loving mother, who wanted the best for her children. Jo deeply loved her six grandchildren: Sarah, Adam, Casey, Courtney, Daniel and Benjamin. She was an active member of Coker United Methodist Church and a member of the Emmaus Community. Jo loved gardening and always took pride in her yard. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, William Sidney Gibbens; brother, Lynn Hurta; and infant grandson, Aaron Casey Gibbens. She leaves behind sons, Pat and his wife, Lisa, and David and his wife, Rebecca; and five beloved grandchildren: Sarah, Adam, Courtney, Daniel and Benjamin; brother-in-law, Bobby Gibbens; sisters-in-law, Lou Gibbens and Genie Hurta; as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins. Jo will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
