

Lillian L. Johnson, age 98, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born July 21, 1922 in Ft. Worth, Texas to Nellie Mae Wood and Henry William Schmidt. Lillian married Col. Barney Lee Johnson Jr. in 1941 and served as a faithful officer's wife until his retirement from the United States Air Force in 1970. As a member of the Officers' Wives' Club or OWC she was involved with organizing a daycare center in Marianna, FL during WWII so that other members could attend OWC activities; she managed the thrift shop at the Armed Forces Staff College in 1955; worked as a Red Cross Gray Lady in several military hospitals, including Clark AFB during the Vietnam war; served as president of the OWC in
Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro, NC and 13th Air Force Wife's Club at Clark AFB, as well as the president of the Ladies Gold
Association at MacDill AFB in Tampa, FL.
She loved playing golf, the piano, bridge and sewing in her free time. Above all Lillian loved her home, wherever it happened to be at the time, and her family.
She is preceded in death by her first husband Col Barney Lee Johnson Jr. and second husband Thomas Woodrow Johnson as well as many of her friends.
Lillian is survived by her children Linda J. Kirk and husband David of San Antonio, Texas and Wayne Johnson and wife Bobbie of Houston, Texas; grandchildren Kristine Kirk Clark, Kara Lee Kirk, Jennifer Johnson Herbert and Stephen Johnson; great-grandchildren Scott Bissmeyer, William Bissmeyer, John Bissmeyer, Cole Kirk, Everett Kirk, Hill Clark, Sedley Clark and Robert Clark; as well as numerous extended family members all across the country.
Lillian will now join her husband Barney at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery.
