She attended the University of Indiana where she earned both her Bachelor of Arts and Master’s in Education. After teaching first grade for a few years, in 1967 she decided to see a bit of the world and began teaching with the Department of Defense. She was assigned to Okinawa, Japan where Linda met and married John Reid, then a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. They remained devoted for nearly 42 years of marriage until his death in 2009.
From 1970-1976, they welcomed four children and Linda dedicated her life to being a mom and raising her family. In 1975, John, Linda and their three young daughters moved from Maryland to Germany, where they lived for seven years. In Augsburg she and John had their fourth child, a son. In 1982, they moved to San Antonio, TX where Linda lived until her death. After a 16-year break, she entered the classroom again, teaching at Knowlton Elementary and then Adams Hill Elementary, both in Northside ISD. At both schools she was blessed with dear friendships that lasted the rest of her life.
Linda and John created a home where all their children’s friends were welcome. In fact, they became surrogate parents of sorts to some. Over time these relationships deepened until Linda was like a second mom to many.
Linda was a true servant of God and constant in her faith. After her retirement from teaching, she devoted her time to serving those in need through the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Among many other tasks, she coordinated Thanksgiving food delivery, Christmas gift giving, and biweekly pickups for the food pantry. In her two decades volunteering, she gave thousands of hours working to help others.
She was an incredibly good cook, a master at crossword puzzles and sudoku, and a shark at board and card games. She delighted in her grandchildren, who gave her the purest happiness of her life.
Mostly, Linda will be remembered for her ability to see the beauty in all people, her capacity for love and friendship, and how wonderful she was as a mother.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, John and Leona Thompson; her sisters, Judy Miller and Pat Czazasty; and her beloved husband, John.
Survivors include daughters, Kathleen Reid and Maureen Reid, of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Eileen Buesing (husband Brian) of Seattle, WA; son, Michael Reid of San Antonio, TX; grandsons, Aidan Reid and Gavin Reid; granddaughter, Macey Buesing; brother, Jim Thompson (wife Bobbi) of Basalt, CO; brother-in-law, Ed Czazasty of Portage, IN; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Joan Reid of Plainville, MA; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
