

Linda Josephine West, age 73, passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on July 5, 1948, in Refugio, Texas to parents Douglas and Kathleen Prescott Burgin. She spent most of her youth in the Rio Grande Valley, graduating from PSJA High School and attending the University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg, Texas, where she majored in English and received her teaching certification. She met the love of her life, Gary West, at age 15. They were married September 26, 1970, nearly 51 years ago. She had a successful career as a teacher and librarian, as she always had a passion for children and learning. Her hobbies and interests outside of work included reading, sewing, crocheting, scrapbooking, jewelry-making, and a large variety of arts and crafts. After retirement, some of her favorite things included spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren, watching the deer off of her front porch, listening to music, and keeping up with friends and family on social media. She is preceded in death by her parents, Douglas “Jack” and Kathleen “Bebe” Burgin, and sisters Jackie Allen and Kathy Sautner. Linda is survived by her husband, Gary West; daughters, Kasia Larman, Stephanie Baldwin, and Taylor Galvan; grandchildren, Logan Clark, Sophia Baldwin, Mallory Baldwin, and Jack Baldwin; and brother, Thomas Burgin. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
