Lindsey J. “Sam” Sammons, age 92, passed away March 13, 2017 in San Antonio, TX. He was born on March 26, 1924 in Louisa, KY to Ulysses & Elva (Miller) Sammons. He was a true son of the Great Depression and the WWII era. He served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific & participated in the Luzon Invasion and Campaign. He then joined the active Naval Reserve as a photographer, transferring to the Airforce in 1948. He retired in 1965 with over 22 years of service. He was also a Master Mason since 1955. Sam was proud of his Scottish and Irish Heritage. He was an accomplished illustrator and cartoonist.
He was preceded in death by his 4 sisters: Mary, Blanch, Gussie and Shirley; 2 brothers: Fred and Roy.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ethel Sammons; and adopted son, Timothy.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be 9 a.m., Monday, March 27, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
