Lois Daubert Dolch, age 92, passed away gently on November 12, 2016, in Boerne, Texas. She was born in her grandmother's home in Fairfax, Oklahoma to Charles and Connie Krause Daubert on September 18, 1924. The family moved to San Antonio where Lois graduated in 1942 from Thomas Jefferson High School where she was proud to be a Lasso. While attending Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO, she met and married Capt. Russell Miller, a pilot in the Army Air Corps in 1944. She was widowed shortly after the birth of their daughter, Pat, when he was killed during a reconnaissance mission over Normandy. Later, she met and married her beloved husband, Elmer Dolch, with whom she had three daughters, Jan, Suzie, and Connie. Elmer died in 2010 after 64 wonderful years of marriage.
As wife, mother and homemaker, Lois lived a creative and spiritual life rooted in the Episcopal Church, nature and activities with her girls whom she considered the greatest achievement of her life. She was always supportive and rarely critical of their life choices trusting them to make good decisions.
After their children were grown, Lois stayed busy raising Yorkshire Terriers, teaching yoga and, with Elmer, enjoying skiing, hiking, and bicycling. She threw herself actively into every phase of her life. Being raised by parents who instilled Christian values, she was involved first at St. George Episcopal Church and then St. Mark's Episcopal Church and was an active Daughter of the King.
She and Elmer bought a ranch in New Mexico where her adventuresome and creative spirit thrived. She loved the isolation and living close to the mountains and all of nature. She painted the landscapes with a group of dear artistic friends who loved the area as she did.
Her grandchildren particularly remember her enthusiasm, positive attitude, long descriptive letters, love of Southwest culture and jewelry and her interesting and often surprising ideas that she enjoyed sharing with them. Gram was never dull!
Her last years were spent gracefully at Menger Springs in Boerne where she continued to feel blessed in her faith and joyful in spirit. She knew she had a life well lived and a family well loved.
Lois was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Connie Daubert, and husband, Elmer Dolch.
Survivors include her brother, C. Robert Daubert, and wife, Grace; daughters Pat Inselmann and husband, Mike, Jan Busby and husband, Rusty, Suzie Clements and husband, Denham, and Connie McVicar and husband, Ross; and grandchildren Kelly Inselmann, Brooks Wagner, Hannah Inselmann Wier, Birgitte Hansen Blackwell, Sean Wagner, Kathrine Hansen, and Lacey Inselmann Glenewinkel; nine great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Gloria Arredondo and Monique Rhea for their devotion and care of Lois as well as Brandon Cobb of River City Hospice. Thanks also to the members of St. Helena's Episcopal Church who faithfully visited.
A memorial service will be on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Helena's Episcopal Church, 410 N. Main St., Boerne, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Special Olympics or Fisher House.org.
