Lorena "Chaney" Carroll was born on November 6, 1924, in Viola, Idaho, and she left this world on July 31, 2025. She is lovingly remembered by her cherished daughter, Pamela Lee Carroll Stephens, and her husband Thomas. Her legacy continues through her granddaughter, Stephanie Britz, her grandson, Jackson (Jake) Berry, and his wife, Sarah. She is also survived by her step-grandchildren, Sean Stephens and CJ Griffin, along with numerous nieces and nephews, including Bill and Kathy Carroll, Marian and Hal Hart, Ronda and Kent Klein, Nancy and Robbie Miller, Neill and Karen Wait, and Anne and Joe Ferrer, along with their families.
Lorena was preceded in death by her devoted husband of over 70 years, Walter Blair Carroll, as well as her beloved sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Roy Wing, and their children, Judy and Sandy Wing.
Affectionately known as Chaney, she embraced her role as a member of the Joy Singers at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church for many years. An avid golfer, she cherished countless rounds with her husband and the women’s league, traveling extensively to enjoy beautiful golf courses together.
Chaney took great pride in being a loving wife and mother. As a military spouse, she embraced the adventure of travel and created a warm and welcoming home for family and friends. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life; she actively participated in church activities, celebrating her love for the Lord through her kindness and dedication to choir programs wherever she lived.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Waterford on Thousand Oaks, where Chaney resided for over nine years, and to the All-Care staff, who provided loving support in her later years. A special acknowledgement goes to Trinity Hospice for their compassionate care during her final year and days.
A Graveside service will take place at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in Shelter 3 on Monday, August 11, 2025 at 9:30 am.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am at Alamo Heights Methodist Church located at 825 E. Basse Rd. in San Antonio, Texas 78209.
