It is with a mixture of love and sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Lorence (Larry) W. Trick, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, at the age of 84. Born in Salem, Oregon, on September 25, 1940, Larry’s life was filled with love, laughter, and a sense of adventure.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years, Judy, his sister Carla, his three children—Christopher, Megan, and Carolyn—and his four grandchildren, Molly, Drake, Ryan, and Sophie Ann, along with his great-grandchild, Maddox. He also leaves behind stepchildren Erik, Jana, Stacey, and Shannon, as well as step-grandchildren, close loved ones and countless lifelong friends and associates who were fortunate to know him.
Throughout his remarkable life, Larry was a man of boundless achievements and passions. His journey began at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he played basketball, and continued at George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He then served with honor in the United States Air Force as Chief of Orthopaedic Services. As a Colonel in the Air Force and a highly respected orthopaedic surgeon, Larry’s dedication to his craft and country was unwavering.
Beyond his medical career, Larry was a true teacher and mentor, sharing his vast knowledge and experience with countless others, inspiring all who had the privilege to learn from him. Outside of his professional life, he was an avid outdoorsman and adventurer, with a deep love for nature, wildlife, and hunting. He embraced world travel, always seeking new experiences and connections.
Larry found joy in the simple pleasures of life, from dogs and music to fine dining and especially dark chocolate. He was a devoted fan of his beloved San Antonio Spurs, and though he was not originally from Texas, he wholeheartedly adopted it as his home, cherishing everything the state had to offer.
Larry was an active member of several professional medical societies, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Association, Bexar County Medical Society, Texas Orthopaedic Association, Alamo Orthopaedic Society, Clinical Orthopaedic Society, Southern Orthopaedic Association, Western Orthopaedic Association, and the Military Officer’s Association of America. His contributions to the field were deeply valued by his peers.
Though he may no longer be with us, Larry’s kindness, humor, and zest for life will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him, and while he will be deeply missed, his legacy of passion, generosity, and devotion to his country, family, and friends will live on in their hearts.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 10:00 A.M., at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Avenue, San Antonio, Texas.
