Loreta N. Lee was born on March 12, 1928, in Gatesville, Texas. She is the last surviving sibling (9 children) of Maggie and Milton Whitehead. Loreta is the last founding member of Shearer Hills Baptist Church and was the first secretary of Shearer Hills Baptist Church. Loreta graduated May 25, 1945, and married Gerald Wayne Lee the next day, May 26, 1945, because it was during war times and he was going to boot camp in 3 days. Loreta was very active at church, teaching youth, coaching basketball, baseball and volleyball. She loved singing in the choir and did until she was 93. While at Shearer Hills Baptist Church, she was the bridal consultant as well as working in the kitchen and for Family Ministries for memorial Receptions etc. If there was an activity at church, she was usually there to help. Loreta also spent time volunteering at Boysville. Growing up she had no television, VCR, computer, cell phones, electricity, gas or electric stoves, air conditioner, electric or gas washers & dryers, however she embraced the I phone which became her lifeline to the outside world once she could no longer get out. Loreta loved her children and all her grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to attend anything they were participating in, whether softball, choir, rodeo, showing chickens, football games, band or graduations. Some of her favorite times were the holidays, where her family gathered at her house. There were children running around everywhere and she loved it. Family was her pride and joy. If you ever sent Loreta a card or visited her at home or the hospital, she recorded your visit and so appreciated them all.
Special Thanks to Casey Kelley, Loreta’s granddaughter, and Leti Martinez-McCullen who took such good care of her, Latasha from Christa Santa Rosa Hospice and all the wonderful people at The Forum – we could not have done it without all your help.
