Born in Ashland, KS, on June 19, 1937, she graduated from the St. Francis School of Nursing in Wichita, KA, in 1958. She worked at Northeast Baptist Hospital in San Antonio for 18 years. After retiring in 1988, she began a new career as a beauty consultant and remained active with Mary Kay Cosmetics until 1998.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters Twila Jean Vandeveer Croucher and Verla Marlene Vandeveer Spurlock. Survivors include her husband, Delbert Hemmen; 3 children, Carla Ann Hemmen Dupnick and husband Gary J. Dupnick of LaVernia, Bruce George Hemmen and wife Beth Hemmen of Bulverde, and Dr. Andrew Martin Hemmen of New Mexico; 5 grandchildren, Gary J. Dupnick, Jr., Travis J. Dupnick, Kyle J. Dupnick, Austin J. Dupnick, and Tyler J. Dupnick; a sister, Louise Ann Vandeveer Spring of Denver, CO; and 2 brothers, George Keith Vandeveer of Denver, CO, and Leland Calvin Vandeveer of Roscoe, IL.
