After graduating from King High School in Kingsville, Texas, in 1965, Lou enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1966. He served his country with honor as part of an Air Rescue Crew during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1968. While serving in Vietnam, Louis met Linda through a Dear Abby letter. They began exchanging letters and were married in November 1968. Following his military service, Lou continued his education, earning an Associate of Applied Sciences degree from San Antonio College and later completing his Bachelor’s degree at Southwest Texas State University.
Lou dedicated his career to CPS Energy, where he worked as a welder and later as a Certified Welding Inspector, retiring as Welder Foreman in 2005. A man dedicated to both his community and his passions, Lou served as Recording Secretary for his local IBEW. He volunteered with the Red Cross, coached CYO softball, and was a familiar face at the San Antonio Rodeo BBQ Cookoff, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and competition. In his free time, Lou loved hunting, fishing, and playing golf — pastimes that reflected his love for the outdoors and time spent with friends and family.
Louis loved his family fiercely. He was the best husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was always willing to help family, friends, and the community. He was a proud Air Force veteran who believed it was an honor to serve his country.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Linda Rhodius Lassiter; his daughters Lisa Vrana (Chris), Leah Lassiter, and Lyne Amber Turman (Cody); and his cherished grandchildren Bailee Sherrard (Anthony), Rylee Vrana, Carter Blass, Caylea Lassiter, Teagan Turman, Kendyll Turman, Cooper Turman, and Kutter Turman. He was also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Kaidyn. Lou is further survived by his siblings Jayne Lassiter and Steve Lassiter, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Audrey Lassiter; his sister, Evelyn Willmon; and his parents-in-law, Lorine and Ed Rhodius.
