Louis James Palmeri

SMSgt Louis James Palmeri, USAF Ret. of Spring Branch and formerly of San Antonio passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021. He was born June 7, 1936 in Rockford, Illinois to Jack J. and Marion G. Palmeri. Lou enlisted in the United States Air Force at age 19. While home on leave in 1963 from Crete, Greece, he met the love of his life Jean Sterner from Rockford, Il. They were married 57 years.

He served a distinguished career as an electronic intelligence senior NCO radio communication analyst, which was then known as USAF Security Services, which was essentially the cryptographic intelligence branch of the Air Force. It is currently known as the Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, and is comprised of airmen culled from the cream of the USAF enlisted recruits (the top ½ of 1 percent). He also was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and three Air Force Commendation Medals. His country was proud of his 28 years of active service.

Lou and Jean raised three sons while living military life. They were stationed in Crete, Greece; Chichksands, England; Clark AFB, Philippines,; Ft. Meade, Maryland; and the National Security Agency, San Antonio, Texas. He loved serving his country. When he would leave for work he would say, “You can sleep well tonight because I am on duty.” He retired from the Air Force in 1984. He then continued his career working in the Postal Service till his retirement.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Marion Palmeri. Lou leaves behind his beloved wife, Jean; 3 sons, Dr. Mark L. Palmeri from El Dorado Hills, California; Kevin M. Palmeri, and Brian J. Palmeri from San Antonio, Texas; eleven grandchildren, Megan, Gabriella, Annalisa, Jack, Sarah, Sophia, Sidney, Andy, Matt, Phillip, and Nina; and two great-grandchildren, Graeson and Scarlett.
