It’s been six months and I’m still heart broken by losing him. Lucas was my best friend when I was living in Charleston and he always complained that I was his only civilian friend. We actually met each other at a rave downtown Charleston and we started talking, I asked him to hold my phone because I didn’t have pockets and then we became friends. He was the type of friend who I could rely on for anything at all, the type of friend who would show up at my place unannounced and I wouldn’t complain. Someone I could call and rant about my day to and he of course could and did the same. He had a habit of showing up to my apartment with no warning and inviting himself in or would come in and take my cat haha! I’d call him last minute and ask if he wanted to do something which he would always show up. Losing him was a shock and I still struggle accepting that he’s gone. He was one of my very best friends and I’ve had to come to terms that I may never find a friend like him again.

The news of Lucas' death was so shocking and left me stunned.  He had begun dating my daughter, Jane, not too long ago but she was SO enamored of him.  She told me she had begun dating someone and when I asked her what she liked so much about him, she said they just "connected" (and that he was very cute).  I could hear the happiness in her voice talking about him and see it in the pictures she shared with me of him and her. I was looking forward to meeting this person who was making my daughter beam with joy.  Seeing his life cut so short is just beyond words.  The sadness for all of you as his family is something I can only imagine - it has saddened me so much and I never even got to meet him.  Anyone who could make my daughter's face shine so bright, well, he had to be something special.  I am praying for him daily and for all of you.  His death leaves a gap in our hearts and lives for sure but maybe knowing that others are here to share in your grief is helpful.  I don't know but I wanted to share my sympathies with you.  Your Lucas will be remembered by our family.

In the short time that I got to know him, he had a sort of energy that you just couldn't ignore. I'm glad that we were able to meet, and may he rest peacefully.

I send my condolences to the friends and family of Lucas. Went to high school with him. Gonna miss him. 
I remember one funny moment I had with him was on prom night we danced together on the floor when no one was on it. He asked me to do it, and I thought it was fun lol.

My name is Andrew Piroutek (Lucas knew me best as Mr. P) and I was Lucas's Economics and Study Hall home room teacher his senior year at HCHS. While I only knew Lucas for a brief time, I got to know him well. I quickly realized that he needed space and a place to be himself, so I gave it to him. Yet while giving him space, I encouraged him to pursue greater things after graduation. We would frequently discuss his potential and what direction(s) he should consider.

After he expressed an interest in the military, I immediately began encouraging him to join. As a veteran myself, I thought the military would be a great foundation for Lucas’s adult life and put him on a path of service and success. I was so proud of him when he finally enlisted and took the oath. During his training we kept in touch and he would keep me updated on his progress. Throughout it all I continued to be impressed with his success and proud of the decision he made. 

Lucas was a very intelligent young man that had a knack for lighting up a room with his wit and sense of humor. Words cannot express the sadness I feel for him, his friends, and his family. My thoughts are with you all during this hard time and I hope you take some peace in knowing that Lucas lived his life his own way, something very few people seem to do now. I know he had a profound impact on all of your lives, but I want you to know he also had a profound impact on mine as well. I will always remember your friend and son, Lucas.

This is Tio Juan, from my family to yours, our  deepest sympathy.  Lucas, when we meet you, you were shy,  after a while you open up a little.  You and your dad were good friends. You two made laugh when you were helping your dad build the deck, lol.  You don't know how much you are going to be missed you left us way to soon.
