Lucille Karagas, age 93, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2022, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Lucille was born on November 4, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan, to parents George and Victoria Eugenides. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Victoria Eugenides; and her only daughter, Vickie Karagas. Lucille was affectionately known as Yiayia Lou Lou. Her passion was her family. She would always plan family gatherings, especially holidays. Although she was a stickler for proper etiquette, her main concern was that everyone felt included, welcome and had a good time. Her grandchildren loved spending time at her house playing, visiting, and having fun.
She worked as a school secretary and cashier at various restaurants earlier in her life. Her most memorable job was working with her youngest son, Demo, when he opened Demo’s Greek Food in San Antonio. She continued working at Demo’s as her daughter, Vickie, took over the restaurant. She was the “main” cashier and made sure everything was done properly and to the highest standards. She continued to work well into her eighties until she finally retired.
She eventually moved to Corpus Christi for the last few years of her life. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family in her hospice home where she had been lovingly cared for by Edna and Jerry Garza.
Lucille is survived by her sons, Michael (Karen) Karagas of Corpus Christi, TX, George (Patty) Karagas of San Antonio, TX, and Demo Karagas of Dallas, TX; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The family will hold a memorial service in Lucille’s honor at a later date.
