Lucille A. Saldana was a woman who knew how to make the most out of life. She loved deeply, gave generously, laughed often, and had a way of making everyone around her feel welcomed, included, and— most importantly, well fed.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Centeno and Juanita Centeno, and her brother, Joe Centeno.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Jesse G. Saldana Jr.; her daughter, Jacqueline D. Saldana; her son, Jesse C. Saldana III (Veronica); and her beloved grandchildren, Emilee Claire Saldana, Isabel Perseis Saldana, and Mia Victoria Saldana. She is also survived by her siblings, Nora Rodriguez, Raymond Centeno, and her "Irish Twin," MaryNell McCumber (Frank), along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, including the “Cousin Crew”, extended family members, and friends who loved her dearly.
A proud 1968 graduate of Harlandale High School, Lucy never really left her Harlandale family behind She remained connected to her classmates throughout the years and was a part of every class reunion. She went on to spend 30 years working in the banking industry. But her life could never be defined simply by where she went to school or where she worked. Lucy was defined by the way she lived.
She loved traveling, dancing, visiting casinos, playing Bunco, Bingo and Lotería, spending time at the beach "Port A", and—perhaps most famously-known for her RETAIL THERAPY adventures. She believed in having fun and making the absolute most of every day.
But nothing brought Lucy more joy than her three granddaughters, Emilee, Isabel, and Mia-the loves of her life. She was completely devoted to them and whatever they were involved in became important to her, too. Sports, dancing, clubs, school activities, special events—if one of her girls was participating, you could count on Grandma being there. She showed up for anything and everything, proudly cheering them on and making sure they always knew just how loved they were. Being their grandmother was one of the GREATEST JOYS OF HER LIFE.
Lucy was truly the hostess with the mostest. She loved bringing people together and had an incredible gift for organizing just about anything. If you knew her well, there was a good chance she knew your favorite things, remembered the details others forgot, and probably had a folder or an envelope with your name on it somewhere.
She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her generosity, and above all, her tremendous love for her family and friends. Lucy showed her love in countless ways, but one of the most memorable was through food. She had a habit of cooking far more than any gathering could possibly require-because in Lucy's world, no one should ever leave hungry, and everyone should have something to take home.
Her life was full of family, friendships, laughter, dancing, trips, celebrations, good food, and countless memories. While those who loved her will feel her absence deeply, Lucy leaves behind something that cannot be measured: a family filled with her traditions, stories, laughter, and love.
She made the most of her life, and she made life more special for the people fortunate enough to share it with her.
And that is a life well remembered.
