

Mary Luella Clayton Hardie, devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 25, 2008. She was born to Gussie Ragland Clayton and Don Clayton on December 2, 1923 in Sweetwater, Texas.
She was raised in San Antonio where she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1941. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas in 1945 and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority.
Thereafter, she was a lifelong resident of San Antonio where she raised her family, taught in the Alamo Heights School District, and founded Invitation, Etc.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, The Argyle, San Antonio Country Club, San Antonio Genealogy Society, Junior League of San Antonio, the Monte Vista Garden Club and the Battle of Flowers Association. She served on the board of the Sunshine Cottage School for the Deaf.
She is predeceased by her loving husband, John Ford Hardie.
She is survived by her children: Don Clayton Reser, Winifred Reser Bishop and husband, John; Sister Agape "Ann" Hardie, Nancy Hardie McDaniel and husband, Eldon, Jot Gunter Hardie and wife, Lindy, Reverend John Hardie and wife, Melanie; grandchildren: Jessica Reser, Rebecca Reser, Mary Bishop, Clayton Bishop, Sarah Bishop, John Hardie IV, Julianne Hardie, Bethany Hardie, Mikayla Hardie, Mallory Hardie, Gunter Hardie and Grant Hardie; and cousins: Barbara Anderson, Fielding Clayton, Frank Goad Clayton, Irvin Clayton, Alice Nichols and Carmen Palmer. Heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, Mary Helen Johnson and Ruth Mackay.
Luella was thoughtful, kind, honest, fair and thoroughly decent in all aspects of life ~ she will be dearly missed by all.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 28th from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Porter Loring on McCullough.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Rich Anderson, Fielding Clayton, Frank Goad Clayton, Irvin Clayton, Terry Dunklin, Bill Edwards, Tom Goad, Martin Harris, Joe McMordie, John Nichols, Tom Palmer, Bryan Schiller, Charles Thompson and Paul Walthall.
