Luis Oliveira, Jr., whose infectious spirit lit up every room, and who dedicated his life to serving his family and faith, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ, Tuesday, March 31, 2015, surrounded by his family. He was 67. To know Luis, was to love him. He easily made friends with his kind smile and generous heart. Luis was a man of profound faith. He was afflicted with cancer the last months of his life and offered his suffering to the Lord, which he spoke of as a gift from God. He had an unparalleled devotion to his entire family, which focused on his grandchildren during the later years of his life. Luis was born July 6, 1947, to Luis Oliveira Sr. and Mamie Galvan Oliveira in Corpus Christi, Texas. He lived in Benavides, Texas for the first thirteen years of his life surrounded by his cousins and family. After his father’s untimely death in 1961, he along with his mother and sisters, moved to Corpus Christi where he graduated from Corpus Christi Academy in 1965. Luis obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from St. Mary's University in 1968. In 1971, he married the love of his life and wife of 43 years, Celina Zepeda Oliveira. Their storybook marriage included having three beautiful daughters Lisa Sattem (Guss), Laura Duran (Francisco), and Lynda Del Valle (Christopher). Luis’ many business ventures included owning several comic book and sports memorabilia stores, coin dealing, stock brokering, and business entrepreneurship. His professional success was a testament to his intelligence and charisma. Luis is survived by his wife Celina Zepeda Oliveira, his mother, Mamie Galvan Oliveira, his three daughters and sons-in-law, two sisters Vickie Maldonado (Mike) and Margaret Dechant (Larry), seven grandchildren, nieces and nephews, his Aunt Patty Prezas, Uncles Ralph and Bobby Galvan along with hundreds of cousins and loving friends. Luis was preceded in death by his father, Luis Oliveira Sr. Luis received loving and excellent care from his oncologist Dr. Scott C. Ulmer and his radiologist Dr. Sylvia Zubyk, along with the wonderful staff at Christus Sister Mary Hospice Center. Visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2015 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home-6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, Texas, 78238-with rosary to follow. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church-13715 Riggs Road, Helotes, Texas, 78023-at 10 a.m. with burial immediately to follow at Resurrection Cemetery-11624 West FM 471, San Antonio, Texas 78253. Donations may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital in memory of Luis Oliveira Jr.
