Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Luis Gonzaga Vázquez, Jr. of San Marcos, Texas peacefully passed away on January 30, 2025. He was born on August 25, 1940, in San Antonio, Texas, to Luis Gonzaga Vázquez, Sr. and Olivia Rodriguez Vázquez. He worked as a jet engine mechanic at what was then Kelly AFB for 30 years. After retirement, he and his wife, Isabel, lived in Leon Valley and eventually moved to San Marcos, Texas where he has resided for the past 23 years on the Vázquez Ranch.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Isabel Hernández Vázquez who passed away in 2018; his parents; his sister, Olivia Loza, and his brother, Joe (Tito) Vázquez. He is survived by his three children and their spouses, Roland (Andrea), San Marcos, Tx; Liza Williams (Donald), Lakehills, Tx; and Louis III (Dave), Conroe, Tx. One of Luis’ greatest joys was being “Papo” and spending time with his five granddaughters: Catarina, Angelina, Morgan, Christine, and Kimberly.
Luis attended Lanier, Fox Tech, and Jefferson high schools, and was an avid sports fan and athlete. In his youth, he played baseball for the Spanish American League of San Antonio. In his later years, he played fast pitch softball in several “over 50” teams in San Antonio. He thoroughly enjoyed “coaching” his granddaughters’ sports from the sidelines.
He was a man who had a gentle spirit, yet he was quick to crack a joke to make people laugh. He thoroughly enjoyed being outside, whether it was sitting outside on his porch watching the horses and wildlife or sitting on the porch at his nursing home watching the visitors and staff of the facility.
The family would like to thank the staff of Cypress Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and Heart to Heart Hospice in San Marcos, Texas for their care. A special thanks goes out to Kristen D., Cindy M., Lorenzo M., Kelsey P., Alana L., Patricia S., Cindy D. (La Reyna), and Dora G., as well as all the other caregivers for their help and support.
Visitation will take place Monday, February 3, 2025, at 5:00 pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm, at Porter Loring Chapel. Procession from Porter Loring to church, Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 9:30 am.
