

Lydia Sanchez Alvarado, entered into the loving arms of Our Lord on July 3, 2025 at the age of 87. She was born in Kerrville, Texas on September 15, 1937, to mother, Adelaida Mares Sanchez and father, Rosalio Sanchez.
Lydia came from a talented musical family, and music remained a core part of her life. She especially loved Golden Oldies, Tejano, and Conjunto music and could often be found singing along while cooking her signature dish, arroz con pollo. Her beautiful voice filled every room with joy, and she also shared her love for dancing with her grandchildren.
Lydia, a devoted mother, beloved grandmother, lived a life full of music, hard work, and unwavering love for her children and grandchildren. A single mother of five, Lydia poured her heart and soul into raising her children, never letting anything stand in the way of giving them a better life. She was a shining example of strength and dedication, always working hard while filling her home with love, laughter, and song. She had a passion for gardening and proudly kept her yard vibrant and alive. A true matriarch, she loved her city and enjoyed participating in local events. She loved going out to eat and trying different food. She also enjoyed shopping trips with her daughters and grandchildren. Holidays spent with her family were always her favorite moments. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her grandkids—they were her pride and joy. An avid coffee drinker, Lydia believed any time was the right time for a cup, and her door was always open for a visit, a conversation, or a meal. Her kindness, humor, and unconditional love will be remembered forever.
Lydia worked for the San Antonio Independent School District for 25 years before retiring in 2008 at the age of 71. Her work ethic, warm spirit, and dedication left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
She will be reunited in heaven with her parents, Adelaida and Rosalio Sanchez; sons, Ruben Alvarado and Jesse Alvarado; siblings, Maria Almaguer, Carlos Sanchez, Reynaldo Sanchez and Raul Sanchez.
Lydia’s legacy lives on through the family; children, Rosa Alvarado Cruz (Henry), Jose Alvarado, and Maricela Silva (Rudy Castro Jr.); grandchildren, Michelle, Jessica, Jacob, Sarah, Juan, Erica, Jennifer, Rudy, Joe Anthony, Angelina, Timothy, Natalia, and Markus; great-grandchildren, Delilah, Aiden, Camila, Bryan, Malani, Jaidyn, Matthew, Eliza, Erin, Dominick, AJ, Chase, Cali, and Caleb; great-great grandchild David. Brothers, Manuel Sanchez and Mario Sanchez; nieces, and nephews, Sylvia, Carlos Jr. Patricia, Rosemary, Margie, Raul, Diana, Rachel, Rosalinda, Raul Jr., Marvin, Mark, and Manuel Jr., Sara, Rosa, Lydia, Mary, Elena, Lupe, Enrique, and Raul, and extended family and friends.
She so fiercely loved and touched many lives with her caring heart and joyful soul. She will be loved and missed.
A visitation for Lydia will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2025 starting at 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home. A prayer service will begin at 6:00 PM. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home with the interment to follow at San Fernando Cemetery II.
