

Born in Mercedes, TX on July 3, 1943, Lydia grew up in Elsa, TX. After graduating from Edcouch-Elsa High School and Pan American University in Edinburg, Lydia married and moved to Mexico City with her husband Domingo Salzillo.
A dedicated retired elementary school teacher, Lydia spent 38 years teaching in Brownsville and Mexico City. After retirement, Lydia and Domingo moved to San Antonio, TX to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Lydia was preceded in death by her parents, Alejandro Gonzalez and Irene Balli Gonzalez, and two brothers Alejandro Sonny and Oscar.
Lydia was a devout Catholic and most recently a parishioner at St. Matthews Catholic Church in San Antonio, Texas where she immediately became an active member. She taught CCD and was a Eucharistic Minister. She also joined the choir and the "Guadalupanas". Her love for her faith and her church were undoubtedly evident in her everyday life.
A dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, Lydia is survived by her husband of 44 years Domingo A. Salzillo, daughters A. Irene Castillo Leopoldo Castillo. Lydia A. Jacobs Brian Jacobs, her sons Jose D. Salzillo Perla Salzillo, Geronimo E. Salzillo Nikki Salzillo, her brother Edward Gonzalez Carmen Gonzalez. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren; Fabiola, Victoria and Marcelo Castillo, Gianni, Giovanna, and Jose Antonio Salzillo, and Logan and Lauren Jacobs.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Porter Loring North.
