

He was preceded in death by parents Lillie Mertz and Wilkes J. Kothmann, sister, Lillian Gabe and brother, John Henry Kothmann.
He is survived by wife of 66 years, Kathleen Lamm Kothmann, son, Wilkes Lamm Kothmann of Dallas, daughters, Cynthia and husband, Mike Hendricks of Arlington, Debbie Kothmann and husband, John Brooks of San Antonio, Laura and husband, Bruce Reed of Castroville and two grandsons, Curtis Kothmann Reed and Kevin Charles Reed of Castroville.
He is also survived by brother, Senator Glenn H. Kothmann, sisters, Mary Jane Stephens and Jupey Hale and very special friend, Dale Chumley.
Mr. Kothmann was a 1942 graduate of Brackenridge High School and 1946 graduate of Texas A&M University. He served in the CBI; China, Burma, India Theater and on Tinian where the Enola Gay left with the atom bomb in World War II. He was owner of J. W. Kothmann & Sons Livestock Commission Company that was founded by his grandfather in 1893. He was President and Manager of the San Antonio Livestock Institute until the stockyards closed in 2001. He was a life member of the San Antonio Livestock Exposition. He volunteered for 25 years in the Brahma division of the show.
He was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church and delivered Meals on Wheels for 8 years. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 14, 2013 beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough Ave.
