

After graduating from East Central High School, Mack was a combat veteran who served in Vietnam from 1968-1970 as a member of the United States Army’s 101st Airborne. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the Bronze Star, the Air Medal for Heroism, and other distinguished commendations. Mack was a devoted father and friend who loved his country and served our Nation with pride and selflessness.
Following his tour in Vietnam, Mack worked as a mechanic at Sears and a service technician at a business machine company before becoming the Service Manager and a Board Member of the company. In his spare time, he loved being outdoors in his garden, spending time with his family, stained glass art, woodworking, and making people laugh.
Mack was preceded in death by his father, Antonio A. Gonzales, his mother, Maria Vargas Gonzales, and his brother, Antonio A. Gonzales Jr.
Mack is survived by his sons Mack Gonzales Jr. and Brandon Tijerina, step-son Alfred Ortiz and step-daughter Margaret “Mimi” Decker, his sisters Eloisa Gonzales Hernandez and Rose Gonzales and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his best friend, Sandi Rabel, who was always by his side and lovingly cared for him.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 10:30am on Monday, September 19th. Following the burial, a Celebration of Life will be held at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a Veterans’ organization of your choice.
