Madge Romell Whitewood was born in Kerrville, Texas on December 29, 1926, and was raised on the Whitewood family ranch outside Harper, Texas. Madge was an artistic and talented girl with lots of family and friends growing up.
In July of 1945, William F. Dees, a dashing pilot in the Army Air Corps, carried her away on his motorcycle to a wonderful married life in the Service, including overseas assignments in Germany, England and the Philippines. Madge and Bill had one daughter, Carol Ann Dees Davidson, and she takes after Madge in being an artistic, warm and caring person. Upon retirement, Madge and Bill settled in San Antonio, where Bill continued to work with the US Postal Service. Madge undertook china painting and some of her freehand works bettered those coming out of the famous porcelain houses in Europe. She was a charter member of the La Villita Porcelain Art Guild and a member of the State Federation of Porcelain Art Clubs.
We lost our Madge to a short battle with cancer on January 27th at the age of 80. She was a feisty but good woman, exhibiting all the wonderful values of her Hill Country heritage. All her many friends and devoted family will miss her phone calls and warm, direct and caring manner. We are all proud of her and proud to call her both friend and family.
Madge is survived by her husband of 61 years, William F. Dees, her daughter Carol Dees Davidson and her husband John Davidson of Argyle, Texas, her brothers: Ken Whitewood of Kerrville, Texas and Brown Whitewood of Centerpoint, Texas, her grandchildren: Philip D. Dixon IV of Granbury, Texas and Mary Elizabeth Ann Ricks of Fort Worth, Texas, her great-grandchildren: Philip, Connor and Blaine Dixon and Haleigh Ricks, and her widowed special cousin: Inez Williams of San Antonio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred James Whitewood and Edith Brown Whitewood of Harper, Texas and by her brother, Fred James Whitewood, Jr. of Fredericksburg, Texas.
