Born Mandy Hedley on October 13, 1960, in North Shields, England, Mandy was raised in the nearby town of Bedlington. Her journey through life was marked by love, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to her family.
Mandy met the love of her life, Steve Spooner, while he was stationed in England with the U.S. Air Force. At the time, she was a civilian employee at the local army depot. Their whirlwind romance led to a Valentine’s Day wedding in 1981 in Bicester, Oxfordshire. Together, they built a beautiful life that spanned countries and decades.
They welcomed their first child, Craig, in England before moving to Colorado, where their daughter Francine was born. In North Carolina, they completed their family with the birth of their son Kyle. A return to England for four years gave Mandy precious time close to her roots and family. Eventually, the Spooners settled in San Antonio, Texas, where Steve retired from the Air Force and Mandy found joy in creating a warm and loving home.
Mandy was a proud military spouse and dedicated homemaker. She cherished her role as a mother and grandmother, finding deep joy in caring for her loved ones. She was known for her delicious baking, her skilled knitting, and her fondness for classic films and British television. She was a devoted fan of Agatha Christie.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 44 years, Steve Spooner; their son Craig Spooner and his wife Mandy, along with grandsons Evan and Dylan of Selma, Texas; their daughter Francine Collins and her husband Stephan, and grandchildren Amaya, Nolan, Iliyana, Layla, Kingston, and Azariah of San Antonio, Texas; and their son Kyle Spooner, his wife Kelly, and grandchildren Liam and Jacqueline of Virden, Illinois.
Mandy’s legacy of love, kindness, and quiet strength will live on through the generations of her family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 N Loop 1604 E., San Antonio, Texas 78232. All who knew and loved Mandy are welcome to attend and share in the remembrance of her remarkable life.
