In the gentle passage of time, the world has bidden farewell to a soul both rare and resplendent. Manon Muncy Kimbro, fondly known as Nonnie to all who held her dear, completed her earthly sonnet on October 28th, 2024. Born amidst the warmth of a summer's glow in Pecan Gap, Texas, on the sixth of July in the year of 1938, she embarked upon a journey through the ages, weaving a life rich in knowledge and mirth.
Nonnie, a woman of keen intellect and quicksilver wit, was a scholar in her own right. The hallowed halls of Texas Christian University knew her footsteps and her mind, as she delved into the depths of English literature, her heart forever entwined with the eloquence of words. Her spirit, adventurous as the boldest of explorers, found its calling across the seas as she served with distinction as an Overseas Program Manager at the Defense Language Institute, guiding and enlightening minds in pursuit of language's treasure.
Yet, for all her worldly travels and learned pursuits, it was within the inky print of the Wall Street Journal and the storied pages of the New York Times that Nonnie found daily solace. There, amidst the black and white, she sailed the ceaseless currents of the world's affairs, her laughter a melody that danced upon the winds of the ever-turning globe.
Nonnie's life, though an odyssey of her own penning, was not a solitary tale. Her beloved husband, the late George T. Kimbro, was her steadfast companion until destiny bid him adieu. Together they bestowed upon the world a lineage of love: daughters Camille and Suzanne, a son, Paul, and his devoted wife, Kim. The mirth of Nonnie's life was multiplied in the sparkling eyes of her grandson, Lance, and his wife, Soni, and again in the cherubic faces of her great-grandchildren, Mila and James. Her grandson Brett, with his wife Elba, continued the legacy of love and laughter that Nonnie so cherished.
To speak of Nonnie is to speak of a woman who was the very embodiment of the words adventurous, intelligent, and funny. Her laughter was a beacon, her wisdom a lighthouse guiding ships through the tempest of life. She lived as she loved, with a fierce grace that warmed the coldest of days and a humor that could chase the shadows from any heart.
As the curtain falls upon her time in San Antonio, Texas, where she drew her last breath in the gentle embrace of natural repose, we are reminded that though her presence is no more upon this mortal stage, the echoes of her life's play will resound in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Let us not don mourning's garb for the loss of our dear Nonnie, but rather celebrate the time that fortune allotted us with her. In memories, she lives, a narrative that will be recounted with smiles and a warmth that transcends the divide between life and the undiscovered country.
As the stars look down upon us, perhaps there, amongst their celestial glow, Nonnie finds her place, a light amongst lights, her laughter a part of the universe's symphony. And while she voyages now beyond our sights, her story, interwoven with ours, shall remain an undying testament to a life splendidly lived.
So, we bid thee adieu, Manon Muncy Kimbro, Nonnie, our compass of joy. May the winds be at thy back, and may the heavens be as charmed by thy spirit as we, who were privileged to share in the tale of thee.
