Manuel Esparza

Manny proudly served his country as a United States Marine, embodying the values of honor, courage, and commitment throughout his life. His service left a lasting impact on those who served beside him and those who knew him afterward. His love for country and dedication to others continued long after his time in uniform, as he remained deeply involved in giving back to his community.

He was preceded in death by his father, David Esparza. He is survived by his loving mother, Amelia Warrell; his brother, Gil Esparza; sisters, Connie Esparza and Carrie Evans; his daughters, Kelley Simmons and Lora Gonyer; and his cherished granddaughters, Alexandria Alvarez and Adalena Gonyer.

Manny was a man full of heart and joy. He had a deep passion for helping others—never hesitating to lend a hand, whether to friends, neighbors, or strangers. He loved fishing, found peace being on the water, and spent countless hours connecting with nature. He was a regular volunteer, always looking for ways to serve the community, just as he did in the military.

Family was everything to Manny. He made it a priority to show up—at events, celebrations, and life’s everyday moments. He brought warmth, laughter, and light everywhere he went. Known for his vibrant spirit, Manny was the life of the party—dancing, smiling, and making sure everyone around him was enjoying themselves.

Manny will be remembered for his generosity, his joyful presence, and his unwavering love for his family and country. He leaves behind a legacy of service, laughter, and love that will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know him.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2025 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home in the Maus II Chapel. A memorial service for Manuel will be held the next day on Monday, June 30, 2025 at 9:30 AM at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. Following the memorial service will be a committal service at 11:15 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
