

Manuel was born in San Antonio, Texas to Manuel J. Othon and Consuelo Othon on April 6, 1944. He married Rachel G. Othon on August 4, 1989 in San Antonio, Texas. Manuel served in the United States Army for 22 years from 1961 to October 1983 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He achieved the rank of SFC (Sergeant First Class) and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Armed Forces Honor Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, and NCO Professional Development Ribbon. During his time in the military, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Honolulu, Hawaii and Munich, Germany to name a few.
Manuel was preceded in death by his parents, Consuelo Othon and Manuel Jose Othon, his brothers, Guillermo Alonso, Sergio Carlos Othon, David Ceasar Othon; his sister, Nila Diaz and his beloved granddaughter, Natalie R. Hiebert-Taylor.
Manuel is survived by his wife, Rachel G. Othon, his children, Manuel J. Othon, III (Liz), Sheila A. Othon-Taylor, Jessica P. Norris, Debra D. Neal, Michael A. Othon and his sisters, Connie (Chelin) Vasquez, Rose Vargas, Laura Hernandez, Sandra Nieto, JoAnn Othon and his brother, Joe Othon. He had 11 grandchildren, Matthew J. Othon (Dominic), Ryan J. Taylor, Dalicia A. Reyes (Javier), Daniel G. Othon (Lisa), Olivia K. Rios (Gerardo), Justin M. Taylor, Joshua B. Norris (Alisa), C. Jordan Norris, James A. Norris II (Aracely), Jakob D. Neal (Courtney) and Daysha J. Neal. Manuel had 15 great grandchildren, Haydin D. Taylor, Malachi L. Othon, Maliyah E. Rios, Airyanna M. Matthews, Roman N. Rios, Aubrey E. Othon, Gautama A. Matthews, Gabriel D. Taylor, Peyton G. Othon, Adriano M. Rios, Davina J. Reyes, Jonah M. Norris, Alexander J. Rios, Tetra R. Norris, and Lily C. Norris.
Manuel’s interests were golf and traveling. He lived and breathed golf. He was so well known for loving golf that after he left Germany, they named a golf tournament in his honor where he worked for the Army & Air Force Exchange Service.
Manuel will be fondly remembered for his love of family, friends and country and especially for being a loving and caring dad and grandpa. He loved to joke around and tease people. Nobody was immune from his teasing and joking, not even people he met for the first time.
Pallbearers will be Matthew J. Othon, Ryan J. Taylor, Daniel G. Othon, Joshua Norris, C.Jordan Norris and Jakob D. Neal.
A visitation for Manuel will be held Monday, August 11, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78238. A rosary will be recited on Monday, August 11, 2025 at 7:00 PM, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78238. A chapel service will held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at 10:00 AM, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78238. A committal service will follow on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at 11:30 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.

Everyone is welcome to gather at the Texas Star Inn after the funeral to honor and remember Manuel Othon. We will enjoy food, drink and fellowship in remembrance of Manuel’s life and legacy. The restaurant is located at 7621 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78238.
