Manuel Enrique Rangel, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, in Austin, Texas. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on December 16, 1940, to Manuel and Isabel Hernandez Rangel. Manuel proudly served his country in United States Army during Vietnam.
His ultimate imprint in life is his impact as a businessman on the Latin music industry in the United States. Rangel Record Distributors, a subsidiary to the company his parents created and which he presided over from 1966 to 2003, became one of the largest independent music distributors in the industry. His openness to technology of the day and his keen business sense set him apart from most companies. Rangel Record Distributors was instrumental in developing every major Tejano artist through its well-established distribution channels.
As a family, we were fortunate to have had the opportunities, either directly or indirectly, because of his success.
After retiring in 2003, reflection on the past came with his emphasis on the many people he worked with throughout his career, as opposed to any personal accomplishments. Common themes that are consistently spoken by many of his past employees and colleagues are: integrity, a mentor, an incredible mind, and a good man.
A good man. That is how we ALL will remember him.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Manuel is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Patricia Rangel; children: Elizabeth Rangel, Leonor Milner and her husband, Clint, Paul Rangel and his wife, Cristina, David Rangel and his wife, Monica, and Carlos Rangel and his wife, Megan; sister, Helen Ortega and her husband, George; grandchildren: Enrique Rangel, Isabel Rangel, Colleen LaRochelle, Renay LaRochelle, Sean LaRochelle, Olivia Rangel and Liliana Rangel.
