Manuel was born in Progresso, Coahuila, Mexico to Rosaura and Santos Rodriguez in 1930. He met Beatriz Hernandez in Lasara, married in Raymondville, TX 1962, and eventually called Lasara home for many memorable years.
Manuel worked in various environments for most of his life: farm laborer (sugar cane, fruit orchards, cotton, to name a few); hydro-trenching along the Gulf coast (“la draga”); welding, machinist, the “go-to” man at the Ring Ranch, and the Water District for problems that required “out of the box” thinking to solve. Manuel had a very strong work ethic that was always geared towards helping his family when he was single and continued when he married and had a family of his own. Manuel enjoyed fishing, tinkering, ultimate DIYer for home repairs, wood working on small items such as toys to grand items (the Palapa comes to mind). Manuel also enjoyed telling jokes, at times laughing well before the punch line. Manuel was an avid swimmer and often used his skill for fun but also used his skill to rescue people or to bring people to shore. Manuel was a wonderful story teller and he did not lack in material because his life was filled with so much variety. Manuel was happiest, though, being around family (immediate and extended). Manuel will be missed very much but because there are so many memories in so many people's hearts, he will never be forgotten. As he would often say “Echale ganas a la vida.” -Live life by giving it your best efforts.
Manuel is preceded in death by his parents Rosaura and Santos Rodriguez, brothers Heriberto “Beto” Rodriguez and Luis Rodriguez.
Manuel is survived by his loving spouse Beatriz Rodriguez; his children: Olga E. and her husband Jesus E.
