

Marcellino "Chino" Matamoros, 89 passed away July 3rd, 2013. Born in Visalia, Ca. on June 2, 1924, Chino proudly served his country for 31 years and in 3 wars; WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He earned 3 bronze stars and saw combat with the 3rd Army, the 187th Airborne Regiment and the 5th Special Forces Group.
He is survived by his wife Mary, son Marcelo, granddaughter Alexandra, daughter-in laws, Barbara and Sue and a large family of sisters, brothers and extended family. Chino earned an associate degree in applied science from St. Edwards University and was proud of his career as a bus driver for disabled children. He excelled in athletics, playing fast pitch softball (short stop), competed in the Senior Olympics where he and his bowling partner Bud earned 2 gold medals and a bronze. An avid golfer, at the age of 84, he had 3 holes in one on 3 different courses. In his spare time, he was a volunteer for the Alamo Silver Wings, Meals on Wheels and restored vintage cars. He was a devout catholic and embraced life. His funeral service will be at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio on July 13th at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, consider donations to the:
