Margaret Louise Sargent Barnes

Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Margaret Louise Sargent Barnes went to be with the Lord on July 6, 2006, at the age of 79. She was born in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado on Nov. 19, 1926, the second of 5 children, to the late Cecil Gilbert Sargent and Ruth Gray Johnson.

She graduated from San Antonio Vocational and Technical High School. Her first employment was Civil Service at the Arsenal. She became a wife and a mother, and remained a homemaker until her children were older. After returning to the workforce, she began her career in banking at Frost Citizens National Bank, where she worked for approximately 18 years. She ended her employment years at Castle Hills Bank.

In life she especially enjoyed the "the blessing" of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Bill Stanton of Boerne; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmie, Jr. and Pam Barnes, and David and Sue Barnes, all of San Antonio. Five grandchildren, Valerie Stanton of San Diego, CA, Paige Stanton currently in Toulouse, France, Trent Barnes and his wife Jennifer, and their two children, Hannah and Branden of Oak Harbor, WA, and Patrick Barnes and his daughter Ellie, and also Tiffany Barnes, all of Amarillo. Three sisters, Marie Helen Sargent and Sylvia Susie Moore of San Antonio, and Norma Benson of Fort Collins, CO, and brother, C. G. Pat Sargent and his wife Diana of Houston, plus many nieces and nephews and their children.

Margaret and her family wish to extend special thanks to Dr. G. Duncan McCarroll, her internist in San Antonio and Dr. Mayo her clinical research doctor at UT Southwestern in Dallas.

Due to Margaret's long-term involvement with the Dallas clinic on research into primary biliary cirrhosis, the family is requesting that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to U.T. Southwestern Medical Center, P O Box 91088, Dallas, Texas 79391-0888 for PBC research, or to the American Cancer Society, San Antonio Metro, PO Box 291048, San Antonio, Texas 78229-1048.
