

Margaret Eleanor Sperry Chapman passed away on June 19, 2017. She was born in Doniphan, Missouri, January 11, 1924. Margaret graduated from the University of Missouri where she majored in sociology with a minor in music and voice. She completed graduate work in social work and worked as a child welfare worker in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She later attended San Diego State College, obtained her teaching credential and taught school California and in Naples, Italy, in the American School.
Margaret married James F. Chapman, December 10, 1949. She and Judge Chapman have since celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Her husband survives her as well as their daughter Mimi Victoria Chapman; their son-in-law Adam G. Searing; and two grandsons Skylar Chapman Searing, age 16 and Cameron Chapman Searing, age 10.
Margaret spent 22 years as a United States Navy wife and loved every minute of it. She was a lover of grand opera and supported the achievements of local and national opera endeavors, including the San Antonio Lyric Opera, as well as the Metropolitan Opera Company of New York.
She was affiliated with eight lineage societies including the Green Mountain Boys Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, which she organized. She was active in the Navy Wives' Club, a founding member of the Assistance League of San Antonio, and a member of the PEO sisterhood. Her favorite charity, the Salvation Army, claimed much of her volunteer time. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Margaret was well loved by her family and friends and she gave that love back in return.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 23rd beginning at 8:30 AM with the funeral service at 10:00 AM in the chapel at Porter Loring on McCullough. Interment will be private for the family.
