

Peggy was one of 9 siblings. The family moved to Baltimore where she attended St. Edward Catholic School thorough the 8th grade . After her mother died when Peggy was 16 she attended St.Michaels business school in Baltimore on Saturdays so that she could care for her 4 younger siblings aged 2-10 years old. Upon graduation she got a job at mineral pigments. After about 3yrs Peggy’s father remarried and she moved with the family to Georgia where she worked as a telephone operator until her father died. She then continued to raise her younger siblings and two younger half-siblings, George and Ruthie. Peggy found a better job as a typist and then a secretary at Fort Gordon. Peggy then attended school to learn additional skills and rose through the civilian ranks to secretary to the officer of the installation.
After her youngest sibling graduated from high school, Peggy requested and was granted a position as a civilian secretary with the Army in South Korea. While on the train ride to her new post she first met her future husband, Don Jackson. Peggy enjoyed travel and exploring Asia and later Europe.
Peggy and Don married on June 27, 1973 and moved to the Washington, DC suburbs where they worked for the federal government and raise their daughter. Peggy retired from the Department of Agriculture in 1984 and she and Don moved to Kerrville Texas in 1993. In Kerrville the couple volunteered for with Meals-on-wheels and at her local senior center. She also spent time exploring the Texas Hill Country, participating in various clubs and political organizations and visiting with family and being “Grandma” to her. She also enjoyed road trips with Don visiting national parks across the Western US, Canada and Alaska. In 2016 Peggy and Don moved to San Antonio to be closer to her daughter and family.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Don W Jackson, parents, Carita and Hans Jacob Strauch; her step-daughter, Beverly Hankin (Jackson), and her sisters Marie Martin and Carita Rowland, and brothers Joe, Paul and Bill Strauch. Peggy is survived by her daughter, Margaret Anne Jackson; stepdaughters Susan Cockrill, Jane Mozier, Karen Jacob and Pat Shelton; grandchildren, Cody, Matt, Tatum, Taryn, Alexis, Amanda, Sam, Alex, Gavin and Seth; her sisters Theresa Angelillo, Ruth Snodgrass and brothers John, Karl, and George Strauch.
The family will have a reception and light refreshments before the Celebration of Life at 11:00 am.
