Margery Frances Stout

After graduating high school, Margery attended Kansas State University for a year before continuing her studies at The University of Kansas. On September 4, 1943, she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Donald E. Stout, beginning a partnership marked by steady devotion, quiet strength, and a willingness to meet each new season with purpose.

Margery was a dedicated military wife—hard-working, remarkably organized, and resilient through the many transitions that service life required. She established 22 different homes during their time in the military, and another four after retirement, creating order and warmth wherever they were sent. In retirement, Margery and Donald traveled in a motor home in search of the right place to settle, and they chose San Antonio.

She was an attentive and dedicated mother to their children, Don Jr. and Susan. She also served as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and cookie chairman for the Girl Scouts, offering patient guidance and thoughtful care. A good cook and a great hostess, Margery made her home a welcoming center of friendship—always the place where the kids and their friends could gather.

Margery’s adventurous spirit showed itself in both her artistry and her travels. A talented painter, she created several still lifes in oil paint, bringing a careful eye and quiet thoughtfulness to her work. Together, she and Donald traveled the world and visited all seven continents. Open to new experiences, she would try anything—including ice skating and skiing—meeting each attempt with good humor and determination, whether or not it came easily. She also gave generously of her time to the community as a member of the Garden Club in Windcrest, Chairman of the Arc Angels, and a volunteer at the RACAP.

Margery was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Donald E. Stout. She is survived by her son Donald E. Stout Jr. (Susan) and daughter Susan Garnatz (Vincent); grandchildren Melissa Zieker (Christopher) and Melanie Manuel; great grandchildren Tyler Zieker, Allison Margery Zieker, Luke Manuel and Kellen Manuel; sister Artis M. Ball; nieces Becky Ball, DeAnne Peterson, Martha Kessler and Meribeth Nissen; as well as numerous great and great great nieces and nephews.

Services will be at Christ the King Lutheran Church on Friday September 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM. The family asks that you wear red to support the troops, as she did every Friday.
