Margie Ann Butler Boggus

Margie’s extraordinary journey in education began in 1954, when the Pilgrim Congregational School opened with kindergarten classes for children ages three to five. Under Margie’s visionary leadership, that small school prospered, creating the foundation for what would eventually become St. George Episcopal School. When the school made its home at St. George in 1972, it entered a new chapter, made possible by the strength of the community Margie had nurtured.

For 40 years, Margie devoted herself to the school and its children. She understood that a child’s earliest experiences at school shape not only how they learn, but also who they become. Through her vision, dedication, and unwavering belief in the potential of every child, she helped create an enduring educational community.

The St. George of today—with its commitment to academic, physical, creative, and spiritual development—stands as part of Margie’s extraordinary legacy. The foundation she helped build continues to shape the lives of children and families to this day.

We honor Margie by remembering not only what she built, but why she built it. We honor her whenever we encourage a child’s curiosity, cultivate wisdom and courage, extend love and respect to others, or serve our community with faith. In these ways, the values she cherished continue the work she began more than seven decades ago.

Margie’s life was a gift to generations of children, families, educators, and friends. Her vision changed lives, her leadership strengthened a community, and her love for children left an enduring mark. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered, and her legacy will continue wherever children are encouraged to learn, grow, discover, and become the people they are meant to be.

She is preceded in death by her loving daughter Barbara Kay Woodward and her loving great grandson Jonathan Gabriel Mason.

Her memory will be cherished by her loving children: Nancy Ann Mason and Bruce Norman Woodward; grandchildren: Jonathan Paul Mason, Robert Bruce Mason and Ann Marie Mason; and great grandchildren: Sarah Jiovanna Mason and Olivia Marie Mason.

A visitation will take place on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026 from 4p-8p at Sunset Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026 at 2pm at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 6904 West Ave, San Antonio, TX 78213. A private interment will occur at Bueche Cemetery.
