Maria Del Carmen Areal Lamas Dean, age 69, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021. A longtime resident of San Antonio, TX, Maria was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, servant and treasured friend. She is survived by her husband, Ronald, daughter Carla, and granddaughters Y’reisha and Anaika. She also leaves behind the family dog, Polo, who she adored.
Born December 25, 1951, in Vigo, Spain, she was the daughter of the late Claudio Areal Campos and Josefa Lamas Alonso and beloved siblings Claudio Areal Lamas, Manuel Areal Lamas (deceased), Antonio Areal Lamas and Dolores Areal Lamas. She married the love of her life Ronald Dean on August 14th, 1980. They were married for 41 years. Most important to Maria was her family. She was totally dedicated to her family in all aspects of their lives. She went above and beyond for everyone she knew and was well known for keeping everyone in line and keeping it “real”. Maria exemplified a Proverbs 31 woman, and she will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Maria worked at Brook Army Medical Center (BAMC) for 10+ years, where she touched the lives of many and made a huge everlasting impact on the organization. A well-loved woman, Maria enjoyed meeting new people from every facet of her life while maintaining old friendships. She was a permanent fixture at BAMC where she would always have a hug, kiss and words of wisdom for everyone working there or passing through.
The Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be in her honor on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 5:00 pm at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Live services will be streamed online at the Sunset Funeral Home Facebook page.
The family would like to thank family, friends and coworkers for their loving care and support.
In lieu of floral offerings, memorials may be made in memory of Maria to the Sarcoma Foundation of America (SFA) or a “funeral donation” to the family.
