She married Charles A. Emrick, Jr. in her hometown of Munich and was a devoted military wife for 20 years; including posts in Munich and Stuttgart, Germany; Fort Sam Houston, Texas; Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; and Heidelberg, Germany. Stationed in Heidelberg for six years, the family enjoyed many fun adventures traveling across Europe before returning to San Antonio where Maria lived for the last 48 years. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother who dedicated herself to her family and helping others.
Maria was never one to sit still, whether it was being a member of the Officers Wives Club, volunteering at the hospital, or serving as a neighborhood representative. While raising her daughters, she worked full time as the manager of Dillard's Fine Jewelry department in Windsor Park Mall, followed by assistant manager at Lillie Rubin in Central Park Mall, before finishing out her retail career as a sales professional at Ann Booth and Town & Country in Lincoln Heights. After her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, taking care of neighborhood critters and watching her favorite game shows.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Charles Alton Emrick, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Debbie Emrick (partner David Myers) and Cindy McCann; grandchildren Carson and Wilson McCann; brother Paul Scheller; sister-in-law Betty Brown; and nieces Carol Moss, Mary Bulot, Brenda Redman, and Sara Lutz.
As she requested, Maria will be wearing her favorite Bavarian dirndl when she is laid to rest with her husband, LTC Charles A. Emrick, Jr. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at 2:00 PM.
Pallbearers will be: Carson and Wilson McCann, David Myers, Tim Bulot, and Bobby Stanley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Animal Defense League of Texas.
