

On November 3, 2025, Maria “Mia” Claudia Jamison, 24, passed away after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born on June 28, 2001, Maria graduated with honors from the TMI Episcopal School in San Antonio in 2019 where she was a member of the choir and she played goalie on the varsity soccer team for 3 years. Maria then went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from UTSA with honors in 2023 and later earned her teaching certification to serve as an 8th grade science teacher at Vernon Middle School in Harlingen, Texas through the Teach for America program, where she served for the past two years. An avid bird watcher and bird lover, Mia was planning to enter the master’s program in ornithology through the Lab of Avian Ecology at the University of Texas at Brownsville in 2026. Mia was an artist, a writer, a photographer, and a member of the Rio Grande Valley Birding Group.
She is survived by her loving parents Kenneth and Claudia Jamison and devoted older brother, Daniel. Maria is also remembered by grandparents Dr. Alberto and Reina Serrano, uncles Dr. Christopher Serrano (Dr. Cristina), Marcos and Henry Serrano (Joan), cousins Dr. Claudia Brown (Kevin), Christian and Charles Serrano, uncle John Jamison and aunt Christie Butters.
Services will be held at St. Padre Pio Catholic Church on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow immediately after the service.
She will also be profoundly missed by her large extended family in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and her many friends, colleagues, and students.
