Maria Eleonor Lopez, age 86, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on May 5, 2024. She was born on November 6, 1937, at Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio to Francisco M. and Josephina L. Barron. She graduated from Providence Catholic High School.
Maria married Guadalupe M. Lopez on Oct 8, 1960, at San Juan De Los Lagos Catholic Church, San Antonio, Texas. As a military wife, she traveled the world with her husband and children. She then returned to her hometown of San Antonio once her husband retired from the US Army. She also worked for Civil Service and retired after 30 years. Maria dedicated her later years to caring for her grandchildren until she began to suffer with memory issues. She fought a long battle with dementia but never forgot her husband of 62 years or her children. She will forever be remembered for her determination, generosity, and laughter that often came with a unique facial expression or comment.
Maria is preceded in death by both Parents, Sisters Sylvia Marjoram, Marta Castillo, and Brothers Frank Barron Jr., Ernesto Barron, and Grandson Edwardo Gonzalez Jr.
She is survived by her Husband Guadalupe M. Lopez; Daughters Patricia Ann Gonzalez, Doris Marie Perez (Joe) and Monica Elisa Martinez; Sisters Josie B. Menchaca and Eva B. Castoreno; Grandchildren Joel A. Solis, Megan Renee Solis, Rebecca A. Ortiz (Manny), Noah I Martinez, Nicolas X Martinez, and Erica D Martinez; Great-Grandchildren Judel Aldana Perez and Edwardo Gonzalez III; Great-Great Grandchild Davina Marie Aldana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Noah I. Martinez, Nicolas X. Martinez, Megan R. Solis, Judel A. Perez, Edwardo Gonzalez III, and Joe H. Perez
A Rosary will be recited on May 13, 2024, at 7:00 pm at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, Texas 78238. Viewing and visitation will begin at 6 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on May 14, 2024, at 10:00 am at San Juan De Los Lagos Catholic Church, 3231 El Paso St, San Antonio, Texas 78207 followed by entombment at San Fernando Cemetery #2. After the service at the cemetery, a reception will be held at San Juan Catholic Church Hall.
The Lopez family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Elysian Hospice staff that cared for their wife/mother in her last two years of life.
