Maria Teresa Schell

A consummate mother and health care professional, Maria provided loving and compassionate care for her patients over a 50+ year medical career while raising five children and accompanying her military husband to a host of postings including Japan and the Philippines.

Maria had an unwavering faith in God. She was a long-time member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church where she was very involved in raising funds for the main chapel which was inaugurated in 2005.

Maria was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, SMSgt (Ret.) John A. Schell. She was also predeceased by her son Capt. John A. Schell Jr., (USMA'78), her brother MSgt (Ret.) Francisco Blanco, and sister Connie Terrones. Maria is survived by her four daughters Frances Soper, Kathleen Spadachene, Corinne Morales, and Rita Schell as well as eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A Rosary will be held for Maria on Monday, July 2, 2012 at 7:00 PM at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Avenue, San Antonio, TX 78212.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held the following day on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 9:30 AM at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 9883 Marbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78245. The mass will be followed by a procession to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for graveside rites at 10:45 AM.
