Mario, son of Juan Francisco Cuellar and Eulalia (Valdez) Cuellar, was born in San Antonio on July 23, 1928. After graduating early from Lanier High School, he entered civil service at Kelly Air Force Base where he worked for 30 years as a supply specialist.
At Kelly, he met the love of his life, Anita, on her first day of work there. They were married on April 14, 1956, and they recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Mario and Anita were blessed with five children, and in 1972 the family moved to Pleasanton and lived in a home that Mario built by hand with the help of his brothers.
Throughout his life, Mario enjoyed many hobbies including electronics, woodworking, auto mechanics, painting, genealogy, writing, cartooning, science, history, and other creative pursuits that kept him active. He also enjoyed listening to classical music, loved Sudoku and jigsaw puzzles, and rarely turned down a good game of dominoes. Honest, hardworking and self-taught, Mario had a thirst for knowledge which he passed down to his children, always stressing the importance of education and learning. He always put his family first.
Mario was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jesus, John, and Joe; sisters Trinidad Solis, Sr. Jean Cuellar, and Maria de la Cruz Sereno; and nephews Ricky Sereno and Gilbert Solis.
