Marie Velia Buitron Medina passed away on May 31, 2021, at the age of 91. She left this world peacefully, at home, surrounded by loved ones. Marie was known as “Momo” to her family and close friends, the nickname her eldest grandchild, Stephanie, bestowed upon her.
She was a gifted artist, and a lover of music and song. You could always find Marie singing, or whistling a tune. She was an excellent cook, and a one-of-a-kind hostess. No year was complete without a trip to her house for an extravagant holiday party, with many hugs. Her family was her pride and joy and she never hesitated to share news of her children, grandchildren or great grandchildren with anyone she met. Marie loved flowers, often they were the subject of her paintings, and they always adorned her house. Marie always shared her love deeply, often treating the children of her neighbors and friends as if they were her own. She never forgot a birthday or holiday. She was a bright light in the lives of anyone she met. Her personality and charisma were impossible to ignore, and she was endlessly full of warmth.
Marie was born in San Antonio, Texas on November 11, 1929. She attended Stephen F. Austin Elementary School, Mark Twain Middle School and then graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1948.
Marie then married the love of her life, Tony Medina in 1952. In 1954 she left the workforce to raise her wonderful children. Being a mother was so important to Marie, she always spoke of how much she loved them, and the wonderful people they have become.
Marie was then blessed with 8 grandchildren, many of which she helped to babysit. In the later years of her life she was thrilled to welcome 4 great grandchildren as well.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents Jesus and Francisca Buitron, her beloved husband of 55 years Tony Medina, and her brother Roland Buitron.
She is survived by her sister Julieta Gloria Miller, her loving children Elvia Medina and husband Raul (Roy) Flores, Juliette Serafine, Judith Ann Taubert and husband Thad, and Anthony Russell (Rusty) Medina and wife Elaine. Her grandchildren Dr. Stephanie Medina, Elise Medina, Tamara Baril and husband James, Richie Taubert, Dr. Katherine Serafine, Laura Serafine, Anthony (Tony) Serafine and wife Annette, and Saul Flores. Her legacy lives on further with her great grandchildren Inessa, Declan, and Anya Baril and Mackenzie Lackey.
